LARA KORONA was a band I first stumbled across on the Elementary Revolt blog back in late 2012 or early 2013 and was thoroughly impressed. The clashing crust/hardcore and epic/ambient styles are fleshed out to the perfect equilibrium. Imagine smashing bands like FallOf Efrafa and City Of Caterpillar together, or Botch and Angel Eyes, and everything meshing to a T. On their final recordings housed on their 2012 LP 'Land Unter' LARA KORONA certainly perfected their driving as fuck post-hardcore which is summed up perfectly in the stunning song "Fest". The mesmerizing nature of the track is instantaneously apparent as the song builds, shifts and swells with proggy post hardcore that gets hella interesting at the 1:20-mark as the fingertapping brings the entire, swirling tornado of sound to a sexy dual guitar attack at 2:35 that could have been lifted from a Kidcrash record. This mathy and melodic introduction is met with the crushing latter half of the song at exactly three minutes - holy hell this song is amazing. The prodigious title track "Land Unter" comes second to last on the album and clocks in at 8:05. It begins with crusty guitar work before flailing around with hyperactive riffs and a sludgy build that collectively fall off a cliff at 1:35 and slowly spiral down into experimental metallic/post-hardcore that follows the manipulated and distorted guitar wailing. The Spires/The Power And The Glory-esque meandering continues for the remainder of the song weaving in and out of different interpretations of spacey, ambient, post-hardcore/post-metal. The opener is also worth mentioning as "Myrkorrhiza" instantly begins with throaty screams and massive instrumentals that explode right before 50 seconds into a sweet breakdown, and then from 1:30 to 4:30 it switches to a very classy instrumental climb that detonates again during the final minute.

The band's older material from the 2010 split with Johnny Futuro is much more screamo based. It's chaotic and spastic as well as subdued and tranquil, but the speed and intensity, as well as the much screamier vocals, make songs such as "Mein Fahrrad ist schneller als Deins" that much more memorable as the release houses but two songs although both eclipse the 8-minute mark. I think a lengthy stretch of Deers! combined with The Pax Cecilia is a decent comparison. "Am Ende" is another stellar track of wailing screams amidst towering instrumentals complete with city maps and tour guides - this shit is seriously well thought out and reminds me of earlier work by Sinking Steps, Rising Eyes and even newer work by Trachimbrod. The rough mix of "Devianzplädoyer" comes (I assume) from the 2008 demo cd/cassette is reminiscent of Tigershark and Perth Express with some alien space synths at the end, which is cool, but doesn't hold a candle to the band's work thereafter.

So there you have it. Chances are you've never heard this band. Change that sheeeeeeeeaaat.
