SLEEPYTIME TRIO was started as a side project in 1994 but ultimately rose from the ashes of Maximillian Colby in 1995 and lasted up until 1997 with brief reunions in 2007 and 2014. The band played a very mid 90s emo approach to screamy hardcore, were very energetic and generally packed a wallop in less than three minutes. Considering the time stamp on these recordings one must realize that the sound these guys played was way ahead of its time. The multiple screamers and mixture of speed with the driving construction of the songs was pulled off with natural ease, causing the band's entire discography to flow extremely well with a noticeable lack of shitty songs. Basically, it was relatively simplistic yet frenzied screamy hardcore so if you enjoyed The Exploder, Twelve Hour Turn and Drive Like Jehu this will be right up your alley.

The SLEEPYTIME TRIO discography 'Memory-Minus' cd was released in both 1998 and again in 2002 and contains all their recorded tracks as well as live songs from their 1997 Europe tour. "Rock Candy" seems to be one of the fan favourites for obvious reasons, most notably the epic nature of the song and the building palm mutes, which sounds a lot like a slowed down version of The Exploder. "Jesus Extract" is a great track, but holy moly take a gander at the live version and be left astounded. Love the dual vocals during the last half of the song. "Like My Plain" sounds like Twelve Hour Turn but much more playful and experimental on the guitar end, which is anything but plain. "30 Equals" begins as a slow, grooving jam until it slides subtly into dancier territory at 1:03 and the culmination of wailing guitars and phenomenal screaming switches over at 1:53. Other mentionables include "Speak Again Twice" which sounds like Rye Coalition mixed with Twelve Hour Turn while "Flake City" screams Drive Like Jehu and Four Hundred Years. I don't necessarily love every song, as the slower "You're Dead; Lava" sounds like Slint and Indian Summer but doesn't interest me very much.

In all honesty this review is lacking, but I hope it's enticing enough for you take a bite below...or just download the discography here.
