Holy fuck. I'd heard the name LOGS thrown around a time or two on the internet, but it wasn't until I knew I was going to meet Adam Brock Ciresi (whom I interviewed here and is from LOGS, Carrion Spring and Said Goner, to name a few) and figured I should brush up on one of his old bands. Like I said, holy fuck. I came across their 'self-titled' 7" about six months back and started to salivate. Then when I met Adam at a show in Toronto he gave me a copy of 'Hogz' and after listening to it I was astounded. I messaged him after jamming it and told him it was like Kidcrash lost the noodles and decided to write very condensed songs which encapsulated intensity, catchiness and powerful song structures with additional Wolves influence.

The 'Logs' 7" busts out 4 phenomenal tracks that may have been meant as a warm-up for the LP, but the these songs are just as good (if not better) than the band's final output. Songs like "Thriving in Volcanoes" has a strong For Want Of feel to it, "Tourniquet" is a mixture of Lautrec, We Were Skeletons, Kidcrash, Tipping Canoe and Red Scare, and also has a light little breakdown that starts at 1:27 and rolls through the rest of the song that has some serious dance-ability to it) as well as "I Would Sell My Soul" which brings one of the best 7"s I've ever heard to a close.

The gatefold 12"LP 'Hogz' continues on the track laid down by the EP with bombastic bass blasts (that's fun to say!), rolling drums and a very articulate scream/yell. I love all four songs from the 7" but this LP has a few tracks that are good, but pale in comparison to tracks 2, 5, 6 and 8. Therefore, the album itself isn't as sustainable but those four songs, my god. "He's Renewal" is one of those bassy blast dealies I was talkin' about and a really cool part that begins at 55 seconds. "Sketch Landing" has a plodding intro that expands to a beautiful stop/start thing at 1:01 and literally explodes at 1:25 when the vocals finally kick it and has me dancing around like an idiot every fucking time. "Split Endings" is certainly one of the bands' shorter, harder and faster numbers while "Franny & Zooey & Nick" closes the album with distorted bass, some evolutionary screamo and a buttload of time changes/parts with an ending that almost disintegrated my vinyl record.

If you've never heard of LOGS or slept on them for a long time, like moi, your excuse is now invalid. Grab that mp3 discography download now!
