I only stumbled across this band about a year ago after reading someone's post on facebook about it. I've nothing about them or the split release since. I was in the Dominican Republic on vacation when one of the songs was first tapped on random with my mp3 player and I took a double take, "who the fuck is this?". It was FURTIVE FOREST, and they drop some siiiick slower, bass-driven post-hardcore.

They released a tape called 'Monologue//Dialogue' in 2012 and the same tracks ended up on their split 12" that was released in 2013. From those, my favourite song is "Dear Friends (Hands Pt. 2)" which truly creates a picture in my mind of a sprawling forest protected by killer moss as well as slippery rocks and cliffs. Everything just sounds so damn natural. It's inviting but in a very cautious way, as there could be danger lurking around the corner. At 2:17 the song slows to a crawl that is reminiscent of Pelican getting lost in massive and dark maze which leads the song to a close. "Lies Must be Challenged" is a driving force for the full 1:51 that it beats from my speakers. I always find myself swaying back and forth much like I do when I listen to some Small Brown Bike songs. It's heavy, but it's not. "Ignorance Sickness" has a very sludgy feel to it and could appear on a Kowloon Walled City record. The vocals make the ground shudder while the instrumentals weave a beautiful layer of slow, palm-muting and sporadic single strums that give this song a crazy amount of substance.

The FURTIVE FOREST demo is worth a listen but I won't be going back to it because the last of the band's material was so much better, in my opinion. Two of the songs are interludes. The songs aren't as epic. They're less engaging. It's still decent, don't get me wrong. Definitely jam their later material a few times and decide for yourself. It took me about three or four rotations before I noticed the roots coming out of my feet.
