***EDHOCHULI / WORST GIFT / WOODLOUSE / SURGES show review***

Click here if you want to watch all of the videos I took that night. There are 2 Worst Gift, 4 Edhochuli and 1 each of Woodlouse and Surges.

SURGES
First up were SURGES. They were very entertaining and played a noisy, sassy, garage-rock band rooted in punk. Just before the climax of the set came the climax of the Team America movie that was being projected next to the band. It was rather fitting and pretty darn funny. Regardless, the band was tight and definitely talented. This was my first time seeing them but hopefully not the last!

WOODLOUSE
Taking the floor next were WOODLOUSE and this was their final Toronto show as the band is apparently done now. They remind me of Neurosis, Black Sabbath and Old Man Gloom all wrapped into one big, sludgy, dripping burrito of darkness. These guys will be noticed too late, especially if they don't have any recordings. Epic, massive stuff.

EDHOCHULI
I will preface this part of the review by quoting my wife as she watched this video in disbelief from this same show, "Why aren't these guys the biggest band in the world?" That's a more than legitimate question that I can't answer, other than people are generally stupid. The band blasted through 30 minutes of prodigious classic rock meets hardcore/screamo and some of the tightest and amazing technical stuff you'll ever lay your eyes and ears on. They played all new material from their upcoming LP that's currently at the plant and will be released on AF Records. The first song only got 20 seconds in before they blew a fuse on the right side of the floor and had to start over. The set also included some unwanted feedback but rarely did it truly detract from the experience. EDHOCHULI continues to be the best live band in the world, or at least one of the best...as I haven't seen every band...yet :) This upcoming LP will be in my top 20 albums of 2015 for damn sure.

WORST GIFT
As it was WORST GIFT's cassette release show, it was only fitting that they close out the night. The band was tight and got the crowd moving as always with their hazy, post-hardcore/shoegaze rock. This was their tape release show for 'Shitty Loser Riffs' and the 12" vinyl should be out in fall of 2015 on Zegema Beach Records. They played all four songs from said album. Below is "Meowing as a Contribution" live. Enjoy and be sure to check out their new album here.
